Classics - Suede

Hello my fellow readers, did you know that she was in fashion a long time ago? You might ask: "Who is she?", and "why was she in fashion?". I think that the answer lies in this video. Can you remember?

It's Suede, also known as The London Suede. They are a brittish alternative rock band that was formed in 1989 in London and whose frontman is Brett Anderson. They  were considered, at the time, one of the best bands from Britain.

The song in question is called She's in Fashion and is included in the album Head Music which dates to 1999. This song was a big hit at the time of it's release, pretty much everywhere in the world. 

I should add that the album, overall, is pretty good. This song is just part of it and there are other songs like Elephant Man or Crack in the Union Jack that are amazing and even better than She's in Fashion. 

I recommend you give the album a listen.

Suede - Head Music

If you are looking for the best thing you can hear from Suede, go check one of their first records called Dog Man Star, from 1994, it is something that you should listen to, if you haven't already.

You should hear it - Clint Mansell

Hello fellow readers, I bring to you one more thing that you should hear. This time it's a song from the soundtrack of the movie "The Fountain". The name of the song is Death is the road to awe and you can listen to it here:

First of all, if you haven't seen the movie , go see it. Rent it, buy it, steal it, i don't care. Just see it. It's from the director Darren Aronofsky and it's a masterpiece, a cult film if you'd like. It stars Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman. You migh be confused by it at first, but give it a chance and you'll be amazed.

The film wouldn't be what it is without it's soundtrack. And what a soundtrack it is! Darren almost always relies on a special person to produce the soundtracks to his films. That special man is called Clint Mansell.

You should hear everything that this man creates. Everything is amazing but i singled out the soundtrack from The Fountain.
Why you ask? Because he made a collaboration with artists like Kronos Quartet and Mogwai. Yes, you read that right. Mogwai and KQ participated in the making of this soundtrack. Two more reasons to listen to it.

You should also listen to the soundtracks of Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler. Yes, the man is that good. I should also suggest you listen to the less known World Traveler.

Today I bring you another classic that you've already heard but probably didn't know the origin. This time I bring you a post full of melancholy. Why? Listen to this:

Erik Satie

I'm pretty sure you can recognize the main melody of this composition. It was composed by Erik Satie and it's called Gymnopédie 1.  He was born in May 17, 1866 in France and died in July 01, 1925. His main composition styles were based around impressionism, modern classical, and western classical music.

The original Gymnopédies are all written in 3/4 time and are considered to be percursors to modern ambient minimalistic music.

I highly suggest you listen, even if you are not fond of classical music. I also recommend you listen to the interpretation of some of his themes by Aldo Ciccolini, which are present in Erik Satie - Aldo Ciccolini.

You should hear it - Glorie

Glorie (2011)

Hello fellow readers, today I'm opening a new category on this blog. This time I'm not going to post any classics but look into the future!
I bring you a band that I discovered recently. It's called Glorie. They are a post-rock band from Memphis, in the US and have released their first album in 2011.


Their members are Jason Paxton, Andrew Saunders, Jeff Hulett, Jonathan Kirkscey and Rob Brimhall.
I suggest you listen to the song Water Drops. It struck a chord with me so i singled it out for my own reasons. You can give it a listen here:



I suggest you give the album a listen. It is quite good and has some great orchestrations. I was surprised by it. It has kind of a chill-out mood that is very nice to hear.
