This is god playing guitar. He is one of the best, if not the best, at least in his style which is jazz fusion. He is considered to be one of the most inventive and technically gifted guitar players in the world. Check out his skills in this song called Road Games:
Allan Holdsworth was born in 1946, in Bradford UK. He soon began an interest in playing the guitar and started recording during his 20's. He developed an interest in Jazz Fusion and has since become one of the pioneers in the genre.
His ability to improvise and his knowledge of chords and chord theory is supreme. He developed his own techniques for remembering notes on the fretboard and he's developed an interesting banjo tehcnique of legato playing and fingerpicking.

He usually works with drummer Chad Wackerman, which is, in my opinion, one fo the best jazz fusion drummers. As a drummer myself I think he is one of the best.
